Street Health is a clinical outreach initiative that provides health screenings, care packages for the homeless population, and referrals for accessible follow-up care. The goal of the program is to bring basic primary care and specialized services to those with the most significant barriers and to create relationships and build trust amongst future physicians and individuals experiencing homelessness in Hampton Roads.
The Need
- Homelessness in Hampton Roads is a systemic challenge.
- Homelessness affects both families & individuals.
- Individuals who are homeless experience significant health challenges.
- This vulnerable population would likely benefit from additional screening .
- Access to healthcare among Norfolk’s homeless and attention.
Student Activities
- Students will be oriented to unsheltered street homeless in Norfolk, VA.
- Students and physician volunteers will conduct up to 12 screening clinics annually.
- Other duties as assigned.
