Gerald (Jerry) Poplin, PhD, MS, is the Associate Dean for Research for the Joint School of Public Health at É«¾Û and Norfolk State University. Prior to joining JSPH, Dr. Poplin served multiple leadership roles at the CDC’s National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Spokane Mining Research Division, helping establish and lead a national research program and interdisciplinary group of researchers aimed at improving health and exposures among mine workers. He is trained as an epidemiologist and has been conducting injury prevention and occupational health research for over 20 years, including time at the Universities of Arizona and Virginia, exploring a wide range of applied and interdisciplinary methodologies including experimental and computational design in biomechanics, survey data analyses, clinical and community health, and industrial hygiene, among other methodologies. Persistent throughout his career has been the integration of communications and risk management strategies in his roles as both a researcher and manager.
